IDEAS, i'm just letting them flow....conversations on gmail
Veronica & i ....creating here is a piece of our conversation...(just for kicks) Veronica:......i like the race/ border/ invasion feelings that conjures up
but it's more just about black white... silhouettes
Veronica: i like the idea of some cross gender things
hiding too many limbs
hiding too few...you know
11:36 PM revelation. disrobing not what you expected
me: what do you mean
Veronica: throwing out words
11:37 PM because the skirt is beautiful, it hides, it reveals
it teases
11:38 PM me: hmm, it's sacred, its appeasing, it can be controlled
Veronica: what if what was underneath, wasn't what you expected? or what if that's just implied... or what if it's shown
me: underneath the skirt are secrets
11:39 PM Veronica: yep
we're onto something
me: yes
here are some thoughts to chew on... i am inspired: by using a skirt to create projections. i would like to project words, textures, images, create patterns.
i am inspired: to use a skirt because it replicates the ocean waves, river streams, & represent divinity. it holds secrets, is a passageway to a liminal state (in between state).
dance forms i'd like to explore--yemaya, oshun, punkin', bomba, postmodern, sabar...i am interested in working with the arms and upper half of the body....
Mixplay is the name of this project by Uniqlo. The interface is designed to "Mix your own dance and soundmix" The dancers are a group called Umin. http://www.uniqlo.jp/mixplay/
I appreciate how each dancer embodies the sound. The dance style is a street dance form known as Pop'n (or poppin) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppin I also love the colors and the white background. This interface is a great way to have users create their own sound mixes.
My overall goal for this class is to create an interactive visual media installation that involves users creating the sound mix with their own body movement.
